Ravintsara

Ravintsara

Ravintsara is a medium-sized tree, 15 to 25 m. The leaves of ravintsara are leathery, elliptical, elongated, glossy on the upper side and glaucous on the underside.
The small flowers of Ravintsara are greenish yellow in color. They give birth to fleshy fruits of red color.
The Madagascar camphor tree or Ravintsara is present on the Hauts Plateaux (Highlands), and on the eastern coasts.
This plant was introduced in the island around the 17th century. The Madagascar camphor tree produces a very good quality essential oil free of camphor or in the trace state. This chemotype was given to him thanks to a natural mutation.
Ravintsara has healing properties. It is a powerful antiviral, but also an immunostimulant and a decongestant. The Malagasy have always used it to treat all kinds of ailments, the most frequent of which are colds and flu.
