Ylang
The ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) is a tree of the Annonaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. It is cultivated for its flowers, from which an essential oil, widely used in perfumery, is extracted by distillation.
The ylang-ylang is an evergreen tree. It has a widely spread crown. Its growth is very fast in the first years since it can reach 2 to 5 meters per year.
The axillary flowers, carried by a peduncle are composed of a calyx with three lobes of 6 mm reflected, six long petals in strips, hanging, arranged in two circles and numerous stamens arranged in a spiral as well as numerous free carpels.
In Madagascar, the production of Ylang essential oil is concentrated in Nosy-Be Hell Ville.
Ylang essential oil is widely used in perfumery.
